An ECG and an Echocardiogram both assess heart health but work very differently, and doctors often order both. An ECG measures the electrical activity of your heart using small electrodes on the skin — it takes 5-10 minutes, is inexpensive, and detects rhythm issues, heart attacks, and electrical conduction problems. An Echocardiogram (2D Echo) uses ultrasound to create moving images of your heart's structure. It shows how the chambers move, how valves open and close, how blood flows, and measures the heart's pumping efficiency (ejection fraction). It takes 30-45 minutes and is better at detecting valve disease, congenital defects, and structural issues. Your doctor may order one or both based on your symptoms. At HDMC Electronic City, both tests are available with same-day reporting. ECG is typically the first-line test, and Echo is added when structural heart conditions need to be ruled out.

A Doppler scan is a specialized ultrasound that measures blood flow through your arteries and veins. Unlike a regular ultrasound that produces still images, Doppler uses sound waves to detect the speed and direction of blood moving through vessels, producing color-coded images and audible signals. Doctors recommend Doppler scans to diagnose deep vein thrombosis (DVT), varicose veins, artery blockages, circulation problems in legs and arms, and pregnancy-related concerns such as foetal blood flow assessment. It is completely non-invasive, painless, and radiation-free, making it safe for pregnant women and patients of all ages. A standard Doppler scan takes 20-45 minutes depending on the area examined. No special preparation is needed unless your doctor advises fasting for abdominal Doppler studies. At HDMC Electronic City, Doppler scans are performed using modern colour Doppler equipment with reports typically available the same day.

Yes, ultrasound is the safest imaging method during pregnancy and has been used routinely for over 50 years. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound uses sound waves rather than radiation, making it safe for both mother and baby. Ultrasounds track foetal growth, confirm due date, check placenta position, detect multiple pregnancies, and screen for birth defects. A typical healthy pregnancy involves 2-4 scans: an early dating scan (6-9 weeks), NT scan (11-13 weeks), anomaly scan (18-22 weeks), and sometimes a growth scan (28-32 weeks). Additional scans are ordered if complications are suspected. Your obstetrician will recommend the schedule based on your pregnancy progress. At HDMC Electronic City, pregnancy ultrasounds are performed by experienced sonologists, and Doppler studies can be added to assess foetal blood flow when needed. Always bring your previous scan reports and maternal health records to the appointment so the sonologist has full context.

X-rays are recommended when your doctor needs to see inside the body to diagnose bone fractures, lung infections, joint problems, or chest conditions. Common reasons include persistent cough or chest pain (chest X-ray), suspected fracture after an injury (bone X-ray), back or neck pain (spine X-ray), sinus issues (sinus X-ray), and pre-surgical evaluation. X-rays use small, carefully controlled amounts of radiation and are considered safe for most patients. Pregnant women should always inform the technician before any X-ray — alternatives like ultrasound are preferred where possible. Children can safely have X-rays when clinically necessary, with extra lead shielding applied to protect unaffected areas. The procedure is painless and takes just a few minutes — you simply hold still while images are captured. At HDMC Electronic City, digital X-ray results are typically available within 30-60 minutes. Bring any previous X-rays to your appointment for comparison.
